Looking for Old WW2 Trailers

This may seem like a stupid post and I belive it to be, however I need some help from you guys, bunny with a pancake

Im a WW2 reenactor who sets up a 4-6 man USMC tent encampment a dozen times a summer at WW2 reenactments. After buying my jeep I came to the realization that I need a trailer becuase I normally hual and entire units worth of equipment with me.

So naturally I want to buy a WW2 trailer so I can use it in my WW2 displays and hual my collection, either a T3 or an MBT would be nice but as long as its WW2 issue I wont be too picky.

I want to find one unrestored and on the cheap seeing as I cant afford to buy a $1,000 restored T3. I cant seem to find a freaking one for sale in Illinois! I love craigslist but never ever seem to find military trailers for sale. Am I using the wrong key words? Where are good places to look for these things for sale? and how do you guys come across them??

Again sorry if this is a dumb post but after a few serious months of looking for a good candidate I cant seem to find anything really.

 

I'd find you local MVPA chapter and make some friends there.

I can't help you with the trailer dilema, I just chimed in to say that is an impressive collection. Nice!

Thanks for the complement shooter207, it has taken a long time to aquire the gear, most is pre outside contract Phillidelphia USMC depot made gear produced between 40 and 42.

I went over to g503 and made an account. After a search over on thier forums (which are a wealth of information!) I didnt find any for sale in Illinois......there was one for sale in Wisconsin but he wanted $950 and it was close to being finished.

Am I being too hopefull in hopeing I can find one for sale on the cheap in unrestored condition?

Maybe. I'm no trailer guy, but from what I've read those are very popular, in high demand, and getting scarce. Never know what you might find lurking in some farmyard though. I'm sure they're still out there, but finding a cheap one might be tough. At a forum like this, you'd have to stand in line for one and rassle over the price. Might try Craigslist if that's in your area, or place want ads in the papers, those little freebie "Pennysaver" papers are good sources too. Maybe ask around where the old farmers hang out, put up wanted posters in the cafes and CO-OP stores, small town Post Offices, etc.

I'd bet there's a lot of them that went into farm service when they were surplused out.

Just put some want adds up. Some farmer might have one stashed. I am looking for a 1/4 ton trailer too, but the are high dollar and scarce, because everyone is using them.

 

Actually I already nabbed an M100 Im backdating to a WW2 T3

 

they are out there. we found one in a guys side yard by his house while going to look at a dog. he didn't want to sell it. he used it to do his yard work with. it still had the hitch but no fenders & wrong wheels. bed was so so but had not been cut. we made a deal with him to buy him a trailer he liked better & made a trade. in the end we got it home for about $650. after wheels, tires, fenders, bearings, metal work, blast & paint it is now a $1500 trailer. this guy wouldn't have responded to a craigslist add. point is you have to get out & beat the bushes to find stuff, and you will find lots of other stuff at the same time. go hock something or borrow the money if you want a trailer you can use right away cause i guarantee you can buy one already to go for less than it will cost to fix up a beater. btw, nice gear you have!

picked this up today, a ww2 ben hur. it has a great body, no rust & no repairs. also no tail gate. it has a home made axle in it. pm me if your interested in this one, it needs a home.

I found a bantam today. Haven't looked at it in person. Guy says it has a fist size rust hole in the bed and it has a newer type ball hitch other than that its original. Hes asking $650 but cash talks, is that a good price?

 

Well I paid $650 for mine and its complete and all original, no rust, and included tires from the 50s. It had a modified hitch and a tail gate (very well done though)

I would say $400 is a good place to start.

 

I was thinking the same. Ill prob. check it out next week.

 

Do a google search for military surplus stores online. I have found a few of these old trailers lurking in their yards but haven't had the guts to pull the trigger on one yet.
