I'm getting ready to reinstall my heater core and get it working before our trip to Tellico next Friday (I'll be driving Lulu up there). I already have the heater motor installed - I upgraded to a Blazer motor. Since the stock heater controls look really bad, and I doubt that the vacuum system works too well on them, I'm just going to leave that part out. I figured I'd just run a single switch to the heater motor, and adapt a choke cable to open and close the plentum in the heater box under the hood for fresh air...

Should I run the blower motor through a relay, then to a switch? Or just run it through a high capacity switch? Also, any ideas on what size switch I'll need (I guess voltage is the proper measure? or is it amps?)

    TIA!!!

I made the heater system using a dumpster heater coil and boneyard fan. I was able to buy (cheap) a good two speed switch at NAPA. It even had a fuse built in.

So, no relay, just a fused 2-speed switch from Napa? Hmmm, I'll have to check them out. I didn't know that 2-speed switches were readily available...

    Thanks!

3 speed even. Just ask specifically for a heater switch.

Thanks everyone! I'll look for a switch at Napa tomorrow.

That's what I was looking for when I found the heater switch at NAPA. And was looking for a resister to put in for low speed.

So, if the toggle switch was on-off-on, the up position could be wired directly to the fan motor for high speed, middle would be off, and down position wired through a resister to the motor for low speed. Would this work?

I'm only asking because I think this would be cooler than the generic heater switch.

Right...just gotta make sure the resistor is large enough to handle the current, as fan motors draw a fair bit of amps...

I have no relay on my fan motor either. Just a lighted duckbill switch from autozone. Either heat is off or its on full blast :)

Joe - are you running the Blazer motor on yours?

Anyone running the blazer motor? Will it heat sufficiently to keep the passengers warm and/or defrost the windshield?

I'm running a motor I found in my grandpa's garage. I had to trim the housing to get the cage fan to fit but it works good. It pulls so much air that you can hear and feel a good amount of suction at the intake on the grille.

    Good deal!

I guess I need to get the duct work, else I'll be pulling smelling "engine compartment air" into the cab...

I'm running infinitely adjustable heater switch from NAPA - its an old school reostat. I think the part numbers are in a thread with on ford blower motors.

NAPA PN for the switch was HC-6144.

Tim: I just did the "rebuild" on stans page for my orig '68 motor. When I finished it, I tested it and both speeds worked fine. In the orig motors they had a resistor to give you 2 speeds, but my switch is broken. I only get 1 speed--luckly it's HIGH.

Don't need much of a heater here in Havasu, but it does get down into the 20's during winter.
