carburetor

    I'm put on a carb. kit on my CJ5.The carb. is a rochester GM 2 JET and i don't know where to set the idle speed at .my haynes manual don't cover a 225 v6 , it has a 258 and a 232 . but no 225 the firing order is the same
    so can i use them . the book tell me to set it at 600rpm and timing at 6*to 10* btdc is this right or not

    The sticker on my radiator cowl says 650-700 RPM at 0* TDC.

    Seriously, do yourself a favor and pitch that Haynes for a copy of the factory service manual, available at http://www.thejeep.com.

    Best $30 you'll spend on 'er.

    You can go by the book, or the sticker on the grill, but sometimes neither will give you a perfect running engine. There are subtle variations in all these older Jeeps...

    Start with the idle at about 750 or so, and the timing at 0*. Take it out for a test drive and see what happens. You might need to tweak it just a bit more, or not.

    i know i had to tweak mine pretty bad after the hei install. i found that around 8-9btdc and idle at about 800-850 rpm seems to make her the happiest

    MY 2G with HEI idles just fine at about 625 rpm or so. Any lower and the alt. light comes on.
