1st and 2nd Gear Whine

    What's acceptable gear whine? My T-14 tranny whines a bit in 1st and 2nd. 3rd smooths out nicely, not nearly as loud.
    My old 85 CJ7 5sp was quiet in comparison.
    I've had the Jeep now for about 6 months and have changed the tranny fluid.
    The old stuff was nasty white stuff. The tranny has approx 300k miles. Maybe getting tired?

    A T-14 should be nearly as quiet in 1 and 2 as in 3. No noticeable difference IIRC.

    A T-18 will whine though.

    yeah there was plenty of water in there.

    Is the noise bearings/gears going bad?
