I am looking to trade for this. I hope to have some more and better pics, but this is all I have for now. The owner says its an M38. Its an 1 1/2 hr drive away so we are texting back and forth right now. I am looking for a "Long term project" to restore as I have time and money. He said he got the motor running today. The guy he bought it from 8yrs ago said everthing was in working order....so with that said the rest of mechanical is an unknown. He put a starting number of $1000. We are doing the horse trading dance from there. Any ideas what it is worth and what year it might be and if it is infact a M38. He dosen't know. Thanks in advance for your input.

    Nope.

Probably a late '46 2A based on the grille and it isn't a column shift.

    It's not worth $1000 IMO

It looks like it is missing the "vent " under the glass on the windshield. The M38's had a one piece glass also, Correct? What would you say price wise?

No tool indents, wrong windshield, wrong dash/ instruments, no battery box on the cowl, etc., etc.
What's it worth? Hows the tub? How much rust? Does it run? Most important, how much would you pay for it?

Do you agree on the CJ2A and year as previously mentioned?

if it's been sitting out and not covered well, expect to find water in the gearboxes.

Thanks for all your input. What about parts? I've search little while looking for items for the 71 and they seem a little hard to find. Are there plenty of aftermarket parts/ resources for the 2A. I can do most all the restore work my self.

because of the parking light type in the grill I would say mid to late 46 willys cj2a. Does it have a clear title? take a magnet with you and look over the tub and frame espesialy the front frame horns. IF the steering has been modified look that over well. The oe steering box is attached directly to the bottom of the column. Parts are avaible but some things are expensive.

I'd have to say early 2A also. Certainly not an M38 or a 3A.

I'd say that it was a good solid start to a project. It has to be totally taken apart though and restored piece by piece IMO. Personally I'd say $500 to $800 if it is all there. It would be a safe bet to say that it needs all new bearings, seals, rubber, fluids, paint... All wear parts should be replaced and all re-buildable parts to be clean and restored. Just my $0.02

Pretty much anything you might need is easily available, whether engine, drive train or body. Quality isn't always as good as the factory, especially on the body parts, but it's there.

I'd say it's a good resto candidate, simply because it appears to be fairly complete & un molested

Early '2A for certain. The bullet parking lamps went away in mid-'48.

It certainly looks to be fairly complete, but be sure to look over the frame. Common places to look for damage/rust are the front frame horns, and the rear near the spring perches. If it pushed a plow at any point you can be almost certain that the front of the frame has been repaired with angle-iron.
