The cutout we're talking about is in the hood, not the tub.:)

So you're right on Big Pine, more or less. Beautiful area, Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania.. We used to camp at Tiadaghton in the late 80s/early 90s before we moved over naar Bloss. I'll send you a PM when we get close to May, see if you're up for some fun, camping, trails, etc.

As for the front axle, see the diagram below. Look on the housing webbing at arrow #3. It may also be cast into the webbing on the back of the diff, between the main body of the housing and the area that supports the pinion bearing. Clean off these webs, usually has a number cast into the web on one side or the other as seen from the top.

I think I see a vent in the front cover, assuming that the cover wasn't swapped, wouldn't that make it a dana 25?

    Correct, the front is a Dana/Spicer model 25 !
The rear is obviously a Dana/Spicer model 44 and 1951 was the first year for this model of axle.

Howie, what do you want to do with this Jeep?

Clearly it's a '51 '3A chassis. If it were mine, I'd put a repop flatty body on it and make it back into a '3A.

Well, It's a project for me to tinker with and to hone old skills and learn new ones workin with sheet metal. I will probably do a body off cleaning and repair to make it reliable and repair and replace the 5 body if it is fixable so it'll be useable for puttin' around. I would like to do the body replace and make it a flatty again, but we'll see how the bucks are then. I ain't lookin to make it showroom or classic, I wanna use it as a recreational driver in the mountains.

Lynn, I'm always up for a campfire and a few barley's

Thanks for the info on the diff's, I'm hoping an internal check will show good gears and bearings so a gasket and refill is all thats needed.
