What wheels do I have?

So Im currently working to bring my new (new to me) 1973 cj5 back to factory condition...or at least make it look like my dream jeep I lost around 7 months ago to a 17 year old driver and his F150 when they slammed into me at 60mph.

Anyway I finally was given the OK by the salvage yard my old jeep went to to come down and pick up the parts. I grabbed the old wheels off of it. The tires are all in great shape (brand new) and all but one of the rims is in perfect shape. One rim got hit in the crash and needs to be replaced. However I don't know what type of rim it is. Its similar to a standard Cj5 rim but deep and offset. The closest thing I found that could be the rims I picked up is something called a Kelsey Hayes wheel Here are some pics of the wheels.

Are they Kelsey Hayes wheels? or something different? And if they are can I find a source for a new rim? as they seem to have only been made for one year for the Renegade I production in 1970.

 

They do look like the renegade 1 15x8 wheels. As far as finding just one good luck.

 

Do you have after pics of the Jeep post-crash? I'm curious to see the damage to a CJ5 from an F150 collision at 60mph. Sounds like you're lucky to be alive.

 

Here are the pics. The jeep got less damaged than the F-150. My bumper went through his radiator ripped the exhaust manifold off and truly messed up his engine. His axel cracked.

All said and done there is close to $5,000 or more in damage (mostly labor expenses as parts are cheap) So I decided to buy another jeep instead of fix this one as I didn't have the money to fix her. She took the hit hard and the police sergeant told me I was lucky to have walked away from with alive and without a scratch. he told me he has seen newer jeeps (90s and newer) get hit like this and there was serious damage to the driver. Its becuase the cj5 was built with a strong frame that Im still alive. Also those lap belts get a bad rep, heck it saved my life.

 

Honestly I didn't have the jeep long enough to learn what type of brakes I had on it. Ill bring back a wheel from my house to school with me and see if it fits over my current jeeps brakes.

If the wheels do fit over 11" brake drums then what type of wheels are these? and where can I find them?

 

They could be Kelsey-Hayes, K-H is just a brand.

However, they are not the K-H that were sold with the Ren 1. Those would not fit over your brake drums. I recall we sold K-H steel wheels for use on intermediate Jeeps back in the day, and these fit over the brakes just fine. If that's what you have, it's unlikely you will find a matching replacement wheel anywhere.

I suggest you look for an aftermarket source for a complete set of wheels. Aftermarket steel wheels are not that expensive - check the Summit Racing site.

I dont have a spare wheel of the same type. The spare I have is a stock Cj5 wheel with a tire made in 1971 on it still.

So what wheels are these then? Also I contacted my mechanic and on Thursday Im going to take the wheel in and see if he can fix it for me. The seal on the rim is still good as the tire still holds air.

 

have a look for wheel repair services in the phone book,they fix and true aluminum ones should be able to work on steel too.

 

I dropped off the wheel at my mechanics today, he said he can fix it and I will get it back next week after he fixes it, sand blasts it and paints it for me.
