    Hello

I recently tried to open the hood on my '75 CJ6 and it appears that whatever the lever inside the grill in front was attached to is no longer there.
After I release the side spring loaded latches, there is no movement of the hood up or down and I can't release the front inside catch to open the hood.
I have looked high and low on parts sites trying to find the hood release assembly and all I can find is the spring loaded side latches which are not the problem.
I assume this front catch had a lever or a wire attached to it to release the front safety catch but I sure can't find it.
Does anyone know A. what this assembly is actually called and B. anyone that might have a replacement or a fiche I can look at of the assembly to try to figure out how to get the hood open?
    Any ideas would really help.

From my Experince, unless someone put one on, it should not have one. Now on gm s10 you can sent a long extension up with a 13mm head and unscrew from the bottom. If someone put one on i would suspect it came from a s10 or such and work the same way. two bolts one on each side of the finger. I am not sure if the new JKs even have a release, i would think by now they would, but i don't know.
On my one piece hood i bolt it to the tub from underneath. Some one might have done the same think, strap, wing nuts, etc.

Thanks for your reply and idea for getting around my problem.
I am not sure what year they started incorporating front hood safety latches in American vehicles but I think it was done because some people's hoods had gone flying off the vehicles on the freeway. In other words, I think the front hood latch I have in my '75 CJ6 is OEM.
I can see a hole offset on the front latch release piece (that you can reach directly behind the grill) that probably connected a wire or rod to the downwards pointing hook shaped piece behind the radiator but that is the problem. I have no way to get to it besides your idea which I will definitely look at.
    Thanks again, good call.

Hood safety latch. Came factory on a 75. You may be able to open your hood by removing the hood hinges and wiggling the hood . Get some help to do this. Your spring prolly broke, You might get a pair of plyers in there to pull the latch down.

here's a pic that should give you an idea of how it should be from the factory.
(its a little dented and askew from having the hood slammed downn on it a few times)
