I purchased a replacement motor for my CJ2A which currently has a Buick 225.
The existing motor and the replacement motor are identical with the block casting number of 1358435. The difference is in the intake.

The motor currently in my Jeep utilizes a Holley 500 2 barrel carburator which has been installed with an adapter plate. The replacement motor has a 1 Barrel carburator which is missing its tag. It is a Rochester, and based on the fact that it utilizes the choke from a heat riser in the exhaust manifolds, I think it is original.

I wont be using the exhaust manifolds, as my Jeep is set up with headers. Anybody have any recommendations for which carburator I should go with? Should I just switch intakes, or should I rebuild the Rochester and convert it to manual Choke. Can anyone identify the Rochester so I can obtain the correct rebuild kit?

I have attached some photos of the Rochester. The number on the bottom of the base is 24148, the number on the choke assembly is 7020414, and the number on the fuel inlet is 7019190.

    Here are the photos:

IMO, it would be a no-bainer to swap the 2 bbl over to the replacement engine.

I would second the two barrel swap.

Did the 225 ever use a 1 bbl carb? I bet it's off the old 196 v6. Either way I'd use the 2 bbl carb.

    Rochester 1 BC circa 1961.
Although a version of the 1 BC was original to D-225 in 1965 this carburetor is not correct.
Besides the Rochester 1 BC is likely one of the worst single barrel carburetors ever devised.
Interestingly the Rochester 2 G / 2GC (2 barrels) are some of the best carburetors ever devised regardless of cost.
I suggest you go with a Rochester "2 jet" if you want ample power or modify with the Carter YF 2392/ 2467 "single bore" if you desire max fuel economy.
