    The other day when we were talking about distributors, Patrick pointed out that the CA 225s had a lower compression ratio (8.5:1) than the non-CA 225s (9.0:1). How was this achieved?

    I would guess different pistons. That would be the least expensive way to do it, from an OEM POV.

    yep
    that's how it was done

    edit: actually my 225 was a CA 225 that was 9:1 before I rebuilt it.

    I was hoping for just a thicker head gasket. So are they flat and domed or something else? If I change to the higher compression piston can I use the old rods and wrist pins.

    I think the 9:1 were domed
    the busted one here on my desk is
    rods and pins the same
    the same heads and head gasket was used regardless of compression

    The factory 9:1 piston in my engine looks like an ash tray, dished flat top with a notch noting forward anda dimple standing i nthe middle.

    Interesting, so is it a taller piston overall? Got any part numbers for the two?

    the buick number cast into the inner skirt is: 1357553
