Transmission is a GM 400 TH. Wanted ad here would probably get you a whole TC shifter cause nobody has replacement parts.

    What's wrong with the shifter?

That shifter is commonly known as the "U" shifter. It was also used in the full-size Jeeps (Wagons and J-trucks). They only vary from app to app by changing the overall length of the shifter (ie the length of the shift rods and the post everything hangs off of). If you need the internal parts or the shifter stalk, Wagoneer parts will work. Typically the parts inside the shifter wear - the pawl and the end of the shifter stalk. There's a good drawing her: http://trailforge.com/TSM/Section_08.pdf

That shifter is not supported in the aftermarket at all, AFAIK. However, you should be able to a few complete shifters easily if you look around. Finding one that's not worn out may take a few tries. Most people would replace it with a twin-stick shifter to improve the shift function

    Yes, still a TH400.

Jeep only used the TH400 before 1980. The TH400s from before 1973 used the so-called 'nailhead' TH400 with an adapter ring. Still a TH400 like any other TH400.
