From reading in "search" I see that a t-90 holds 2.5 pints and the transfer case holds 3.5 pints. If these units "share fluid" can I remove the shifter and just pour 6 pints of 90 weight into the top and let it work its way down overnight. This seams like an easy way to get the right amount of fluid in w/o getting it all over the place or having to pump it in. This is a 1962 Willys with a t-90.

That would work, but I don't think the transfer is fast enough so that you can drive it right away. There may be a passage too, but I know the oil goes through the bearing. As suggested, you could let it sit, and test the level in the transfer case before driving. Pull the D18 fill plug and put your pinkie in to feel the oil level, if oil does not come out on its own.

    There is a passage.
If it were me, though, I'd just fill them thru the fill holes.
