You don't use a pulled to pull the hubs off. Undo the nuts that hold the wheel bearings and it should slide right off.

Just to add to this, you need to bend the washer tabs back flat 1st. Then you take the nuts (2 of them) off and the hub comes right off, no puller needed.

Let me try harder to clarify my problem. Excuse the terminology as I don't know the names of most of the parts. I removed 6 bolts that held the outer cover of the warn hub unit. removed a large c clip that held a geared ring and spring. removed a smaller c clip that looked to hold a smaller gear on the splined shaft. I can't get the smaller gear off the splined shaft. It looks like it needs to come off to pull the hub, rotor

Trying to remember here, you pulled the cover, which is held on by 6 small allen head bolts? If so remove the 6 large bolts, 3/8" hex heads that hold the hub body, not the cover, the whole thing should then slide off including the gear on the shaft.

Maybe you have Lock-O-Matic hubs? What kind of hubs do you have?

The Warn hub bolts to the actual hub, the thing that holds the rotor and houses the wheel bearings. The hub turns on the spindle.

If you have the Warn Lock-O-Matics, there is a ring down in the hub with two or three tiny allen screws in it. It's impossible to see unless you know it's there and you clear the grease away. The screws lock the ring in place, and the rig will spin off of the end of the spindle once you loosen/remove the tiny screws.

A picture of the hub might help.

OBVIOUSY I'M NOT THE BRIGHTEST BULB IN THE ROOM when it comes to mechanics. With all your help I finally got the thing apart without breaking anything. Now I will clean and shine in preparation for my new brakes, I can at least do that on my own.

The small gear that slides on the axel was giving me the problem. I removed the c clip but it didn't just slide out. I ended up covering it with a wrag and clamped vice grips on it , worked like a champ. I have broken parts in the past by missing some minor detail, advice is cheaper than a broken part.
