I used to own a yj but I made a huge mistake and sold it a while back. I recently found a cj5 in black primer that is supposed to run and drive good for $1000. I want to know if this is a good deal. It is a four cylinder soft top. I would also like to know what i need to do to make it a reliable daily driver or is it already reliable? I am a line tech but I don't have much experience on the old stuff. Did the removal of lead in gasoline affect these engines? Any other info would be helpful.

I think the main issue is ... will you be happy with this Jeep? If you need to go any distance on the highway to get to work, you may not be happy. In factory trim, the F134 CJs top out well below 60 mph, and are comfortable at 45-50 mph. They can be fitted with an overdrive, but then you'll be power limited and still top out at below a 'modern' highway speed. Plus at those speeds, you won't have any power in reserve.

These are fun and interesting cars, but it would be hard to recommend one for a daily commute that's further than across town.

Well that's not what I was wanting to here. Guess I will hold off on it. Might take it for a test drive just for the heck of it though. Thanks for all of your help.
