I'll be driving my '75 CJ5 in sometimes deep snow (a foot or more), but on paved roads (underneath the snow, of course). Any recommendations for snow tires? I'm used to seeing tires sized something like "P235R16", but advertisements for Jeep tires I see state sizes in different terms. Can anyone shed light on that for me?

As always, I appreciate your advice.

If your looking for a light truck tire, I've had good luck with BFG AT's.

If you want a car tire, that is a snow tire, Firestone's Winterforce brand has worked well for me on RWD and FWD cars I've had. They are a lot cheaper than over priced Blizzaks, and help with grip both stopping and going.

You can also get Winterforce tires in an LT rating instead of the P series car tire. Although, for a CJ I don't see the need for the added stiffness or extra load capacity. I run Winterforce tires on my K1500, $80 each installed. Remember skinnier is better when it comes to snow tires.

I agree with the AT's, that's what I've run for the last 7 years, they are fantastic in snow.

I had a set of bridgestone Winter duelers on my XJ a few years back. They were awesome. more traction in 2wd than with regular tires in 4wd.

We do not often have snow that deep, more of an icy winter mix as they are fond of saying. I got a set of these tires for the wife's XJ Cherokee that seem to work well. It is our emergency "take the baby to the doctor" car. when "staying home" is not an option. Swapped in a NP242 transfer case and picked up a Sure Grip center section at the junkyard the other day. Over prepared so far, hopefully will never have to put on the chains.
