Hi, does anyone know if T-18 from a Ford or Scout is the same as the jeep version? My friend has a T-14 behind his V6 that needs to br replaced and I read somewhere that T-18 would fit right on. Could I use one of those, or will it have to come from a jeep?

From my reading, I think that the Ford is what you want but there might be different input shaft lengths. Also there is a 6.xx to 1 and a 4.xx to 1 version. so count the turns.
The only bummer is the PTO port on the passnger side. But nobody seems to be using PTO unless you're plowing snow.
The IH T18 doesn't work well or at all as far as I know.

No, neither the Ford nor IHC T-18 is the same as the Jeep T-18. And, there are lots of different Jeep T-18s, so just being from a Jeep is not good enough. The Ford T-18 in either 2WD or 4WD form won't bolt to your transfer case. The IHC T-18 will bolt to your transfer case, but won't bolt to your engine.

However, if you have both a Ford 2WD and IHC 4WD T-18, you can put together a T-18 from pieces of each that will work with some additional minor machining. Nick (nickmil) has covered this in the past - search for his old posts. This is a popular topic - lots of information in old posts.

I just finished this conversion about a 2 weeks ago. FWIW, it is a lot of work. The T18 I used came from a Jeep J series pick up w/I6. The input shaft was the same length as my T14, so I machined the V6 to T14 adapter to fit the T18. And then drilled and tapped some holes in the T18 case that matched the T14 bolt pattern. You might need this throw-out bering. Measure the diameter of the shaft collar.
