In the dash of a 79 cj5 they have several pull knobs for various things such as heater vents. They goes back behind the dash and connects to a lever which in turn moves the vents. My question is how do you disconnect these to switch out out pull knobs? The end of the cable is connecting around a pin, and I cant figure out how to get the cable loose. I have tried to pull on the pin, but it was a no go. Anyone know?

    Thanks

I had a '79 CJ-7 with (probably) the same setup. I replaced all the cables at one point, and as I recall, they were a unit. By that I mean the knob, all the way to the little wire cable that hooks to the lever behind the dash is one inseparable piece. I just bought the new units from a catalog, and replaced them. I think I may have had to break the originals at the dash to remove them. But the new ones just snap into place if the holes in the dash are intact.

I kinda remember the pin you are talking about. It was hard to deal with - think I used a pair of needle nose vise-grip pliers to pull it out.

The cable goes around the pin, but I have pulled on it pretty hard. I'm going to try again a little harder tomorrow. Hopefully, I willnt break anything. That whole assembly, I assume, is difficult and/or expensive to find. Thanks.

you first remove the clamp that hold the cable to the heater. then with cable loose, you can slide the cable off the pin. the cable has a nut behind the dash remove that and cable should slide out of the dash.
