For those of you that have completed this swap, or anyone who has experience with this, I'm currently working on swapping my old l head for the 153 mercruiser. I've acquired an SM465 with SBC bellhousing for the swap, and plan on using either AA or Novaks adapter to my model 18 for the swap. I have a few questions though:

    1. What flywheel do I use for this swap? Will a standard 350 flywheel work with the the 153?

    2. Motor Mounts? I'm not sure what to use for this, being it was originally a marine engine.

    3. Has anyone mounted a power steering pump to one of these engines?
Any other input that anyone has on this swap would be greatly appreciated as well.
Some pictures would really help also.

It's getting close to winter time, so I'd like to start acquiring the parts for this conversion.

    Thanks in advance

I have this motor in my project, I just come off the side of the motor as there should be some cast in boss's in the block. There are two boltholes under the fuel pump, and two just behind the alternator mounting on the driver’s side. I just made some plates to mount to the block and then used some square tubing cut at an angle welded to the plates to extend to the frame where I welded a mounting plate for the rubber mounts to go, and drilled the motor mount to sit on the rubber donuts. Actually a picture would say a thousand words. As, for power steering, I got the power steering pump brackets off of a Chevy 250 six, mounted up perfect, as the Chevy 153 is just two cylinders short of a Chevy six. This motor is an easy install, and gives the engine bay a clean uncluttered look. As, for the flywheel I just used a Chevy six flywheel just standard Chevy parts. As, for rubber insulators you can use the stock L head ones, or any after market rubber donuts. Just look and Novak’s site on how they make there side mount kits.

Thanks for the reply. I also like this engine for the clean install. I'm not looking for gobs of horsepower, just better drive-ability. I'm planning on keeping my stock drivetrain for now, and this engine shouldn't push it's limits. It'll just be nice to have an engine that can safely run over 5k, and that can do highway speeds.

I would suggest you use the heaviest standard Chevy flywheel you can find. Smooth out the vibrations and give a easier takeoff.
