The rebuild of the bottom end my '74 304 is about wrapped up and I have some questions about the TCC. The TCC shows a little wear from the water pump impeller rubbing it. The water pump appeared to be a replacement and the wear is minor so I wonder if it was caused by the replacement WP. I have been told that this is a common problem and my question is how can this be prevented in the future? Should I replace the TCC? Should I just not worry about it?

Thanks in advance for any input.

There are also electrolysis issues on the TCC sometimes. New covers are available.

I would check out how well your new water pump and the cover fit before I installed. Put a little machinist's blue on the cover where the interference is and spin it dry. Some plasticine clay will also work, and will tell you how much clearance you have. If it's not worn through, I'd test for clearance and run it.

Galvanic corrosion. Electrolysis is a method of hair removal. :)
