Well I finally took the plunge and bought an early 60s Meyers hard top and door set for my jeep. A member here contacted me out of the blue and said he had a Hardtop and Door set from his 69 Cj5 that would fit my 73 Cj5. Him and I met up in Rockford at the WW2 reenactment they had there and I was participating in. I then spent the morning bolting the thing on to my jeep so I could get it home.

Its a bit rough and the price was right, but everything is there and it all works (more or less) I have alot of improvements I plan to make such as weather stripping everything and reenforcing several areas with angle bar and strip steel. Eventually it will be painted black, and then when I get my factory rims and paint the jeep red the top, doors and rims will be painted white.

I didn't restore mine but the weak spots seem to be the lower inner seam. The spotwelds need to be removed so the metal angle that bolts to the bed can be reattached. The other weak spot is the where the door latch gets pounded.
One thing I can suggest is to paint the interior white or some other light color for better lighting at night.
Mine also came with the curved seal that fit above the old under seat gas cap location.

Can't see because of the shadows, but are the windshield extension brackets there? There is one one each side and they bolt to the windshield and form a seal for the door to close up against. They are commonly lost because they are the only separate piece from the main top and doors. They are incredibly hard to find and difficult to make.

Yes I actually have those and they are currently installed. They are painted black right now so they blend in, my entire windshield frame is yellow.

I also have all the door hinge attachements and such to go with it.

Here are some pics of the windshield frame attachement peices. They fit sung as a bug in a rug against my windshield.

Nice, I just got my hard top mounted yesterday. Yours has the additional small windows on the rear, which is a nice touch.

I got the wondow channel and the rubber molding/lock strip from these guys.

The rubber for rear windows was nice and soft, eazy to work with.

That looks just like the top I bought from Rocky. I've thought about peddling it, and the half-cab too, since I've scored a new-in-the-box Kayline, but I might oughta just hang onto it. It ain't eatin' no hay......

Not trying to Hijack but is this part provided by Meyers or is it common to CJ's. I always thought it was a seal for the tin top.

It's part of the top, it seals the door where it meets the gas filler cutout.

Sometimes Ebay has hinges for hard tops listed, but the windshiled wings are a hard part.

I had to make my upper door hinges.

So I was going to be painting my hardtop this weekend after I finished some body work. BUT the freaking frame to my Jeep cracked so I am having that welded back up and Ill have her back next week.

I however did get the doors attached, the bolt holes to my windshield frame each had broken bolts in them so I had my mechanic weld my door hinges to the black windshield frame peices and I bolted on the bottom hinges. So in short she has doors now.

I stated a bit of work on replacing some gears and rods in the doors to get the windows to actually work as well. Pics and a progress update next week.

Thanks for the link 1970CJ6. I bought a Meyers top last Spring and it needs some TLC and paint. I hope you keep this thread alive as you go thru yours. Having the link for the weatherstripping is already a valuable resource. My top came without the upper door hinges (windshield side) or the lower body hinges. I'm probably going to have to fab those up. The lowers look relatively easy, the upper ones, not so much.

Hey Long & Low, did you post any pics of the door hinges you made for your windshield?

I'd like to see how the upper hinges are attached. The P.O. was pretty rough and I never liked the hack he did on the uppers.
