    270 advertised duration isn’t too bad, that’s right around 220 Deg. @ 0.50 lift.
What was lift anyway, didn’t you say it was around .489/.496, somewhere in there? What about lobe centers, around 110-112 Deg.?
A cam like that will give you a decent chat at an idle but will have enough vacuum to maintain a consistent idle.
The cam that I had troubles coming to grips with the idle was a solid flat tappet PRC cam with duration of 248/252 Deg. @ 0.50 lift with lobe centers at 106 Deg. Now that cam would flat talk to ya, but I couldn’t keep it idling once fully warmed up. About the time I figured out a PCV was the way to keep it idling it knocked a cam lobe flat, even though I was using forced oiling lifters, so I converted to a roller cam and won’t be looking back.

I understand, I’ve got two carbs and have kicked the idea of dual quads around. Problem with that is the best part of dual quads is when the hood is open.
    They’re eye candy.
Once the hood is closed, on the vast majority of pump gas burning street rigs, you’re actually giving up HP for looks.

the funny thing about that dinky carb is that it came factory with this engine. this is a mercruiser 305 and I'm surprised that they would put a 2bbl on a 305 to power a boat! haven't checked steering yet but I'm sure it will clear.(fingers crossed) my linkage ran atop of the frame rail. i have a saginaw set up.

I checked on ebay and craigslist today for tunnelrams. Guess I will have to add that to my watch list. How sweet would that be! My motor is mostly polished aluminum or stainless steel already but a tunnel ram with dual holley 390's jetted down! Sweeeeet!

On the modern Hemi's you can change the cam without removing the heads. If I had a modern hemi in it I would have two cams for the motor one for race and one for 4x4.

Really? I have always pulled the top of the motor off, heads and intake manifold, because the lifters tend to fall when you take the cam out?

On the 5.7 and 6.1 hemi's the lifters stay in place.

Heads stay in place but you do have to pull the intake to get to the lifters because:
    1. You won't be able to get the cam out with pulling the lifters and
    2. The lifters will fall down onto the crank without the cam in place.

I don't know much about Hemi's but the way you describe it they must have some sort of pop-up lifter arrangement. I've got a buddy on another board that's an old school Hemi guy, I'll ask him about it.

Yeah I've always pulled the heads too. Its faster then getting 16 rockers off and I always did head work with cam swaps on sbc. Mine were all old school newest was a 1976 400 sb

Heres the 2004 Hemi Ram lifters hanging out

Ah, understandable. It certainly is easier to pull the lifters without the heads in the way, since they hang over the lifter bores. Especially if the cam has a flat lobe because you can be sure the lifter on that lobe will have it’s face mushroomed out and will get stuck in the lifter bore.
