On my 1976 cj5 I am pretty positive it has a t150 tranny. On the top there are two plug-ins, one on each side of the shifter. the right side still has white with black stripped wire going to it. what is this sensor ? and on the left side , all that is there is some type of female plug, what is that for ?

    thanks,
    Mike

The one with the single plug is the backup light switch I believe.

I think the one with the wires is the transmission controlled spark switch.

yeah, the one is the backup light. not sure what the other is. dont think any of my jeeps had anything pluged into it. If your shifter comes straight up out of the froor with no bends in it, and is a 3sd then id say it is a t150. I have heard bad things about that trany as far as strengh go's, but I havent realy had any problems out of them running 4 inch lift 33x14.50 swamper sx, locker in the rear with one-peice axles.
only thing that happend was 2nd gear would grind just alittle when shifting into it.
I think I have had 2 jeep with the t150 do that, both times it was 2nd gear. I have had about 5 or 6 of them with that trany in it. I just kept driving it and it never went out.

It is a 3 speed. Not sure about if the shifter is straight, I will have to look. All the gears work great, I do need to replace the clutch bearing though.
The switch on the right side actually has two wires going to it with one of them broken off. I cannot find anything hanging that possibly went to the left side.

On my 74 with a T14, the plug with two terminals is for the backup lights.
There should be continuity between the terminals when in reverse.

The other switch with the single wire is for the TCS(Transmission Controlled Spark) Its function is to cut out vacuum spark advance when in 3rd gear.
It supposedly gives you more torque for passing and towing at wider throttle openings while the engine RPM is low.

It just switches to ground to control the TCS solenoid. Thats why it's only one wire. I'm not sure if it grounds in third or ungrounds in third as mine is inop. All I know is that the ball gets pushed in when in third gear.
