Wire wheel = rust polisher. I've used emery cloth starting with 180 grit and going finer as needed. I'd chip the scale off the wheel mount surface and see how solid they are. Gonna be your call on the seal and bearing surfaces once you get them cleaned up. Can't really tell how pitted they are.

I took an old spindle in to a local parts shop to see about getting a replacement. The counter guy looked it over and said I should just clean it up with emery cloth and use it. Mine was not as bad as yours but it's worth a try.

Hard to tell from this photo, but it looks like the bearing race is pressed on, not machined into the spindle.

If it is a separate part, it looks like you should be fine after installing the new race.

only thing i would be concearned with is where the seal rides, not sure if they make a speedy sleave for that or not, JB weld in the pits may work sanded down with emory cloth, may not just a thought. where the bearings ride should be just fine with a wire brush. there is also a seal that is designed to not rotate on the spindle but rotate in the seal itself, again not sure they make one for this application. thinking they are called stenco seals

you can buy them new for 80 at 4wheelsupply. i have enough money already into this jeep so i want to save a buck where i can so i can apply the money somewhere else!

the chunky stuff you see is some of the old backing plate. that should break off. i will take some pics of it tonight when i'm done to show you my progress.

should i reinstall the backing plates? i here they are good mud collectors.

you are gonna about have to, unless you are going disc, when i went to disc i cut them off (they were rusted beyond repair)

went back and looked at the picture a little closer, looks like you have a D30 or the like so you probably have disc already:rofl: was thinking drum brakes

I might have a spare set if these are too far gone, if they are compatible with Dana 27 spindles.

I doubt they are, notice the spindle bearing in the first picture, dont think the d27 will accept the bearing, but i could be wrong

I think these are Dana 30 spindles, and this thread should be in the Intermediate forum.
