I just picked up a replacement frame for my cj5. It needs some work but is in much better shape than what's under it now. Has anyone found away to clean and prep the areas that are boxed in and hard to reach? There is surface rust I'd like to deal with then paint.

    thanks.

Well, if you're REALLY ambitious, you could build a plastic pool to immerse it in and then rig up an electrolysis treatment for it. I just took mine in and had it sandblasted and powdercoated.

Maybe I could use my neighbor's pool.

I had my frame blasted and they were able to get most of the hard to reach areas with the blaster. The boxed areas on my frame were nice clean metal.

I then painted the boxed sections with a assortment of brushes, spray cans and just pouring paint in there. This was very messy but did the job

I pressure washed mine, then sandblasted. I used rust remover inside the boxed sections, then resandblasted until I was satisfied. When I painted inside of them I used a spray can nozzle that had a long tube on it to get everywhere inside. Worked good.

When I did my old pick up I used an undercoating gun with a 3' long tube on the end with a tip that sprayed to the sides. It pretty much reached everything I couldn't see. I've also used a wd40 tip and straw on spray cans.

Getting in there to clean the metal first is another story.
