thinking that the saginaw conversion can be done on the cheep side, what year jeep has the correct tierod end with the hole for the draglink? also will that year style tie rod end fit the D27 knuckle? just kicking this idea around for the moment. I am thinking a trip to the steel mill and pick up a joint of cold roll with the correct inside diameter to allow me to insert the threaded portion of my exsiting tie rod tube into it and then weld it up. heck if i had a left hand tap i would just make the tie rod......

you can drill and tap as i have done in the past on a GM build . However it is eaiser to purchase weld in inserts . Most 4x4 product companies carry them .

When doing my Saggy conversion on the cheap I purchased tap and dies from these guys. http://www.wholesaletoolcompany.com They have left hand stuff and the odd sizes needed for Jeep tie rods. You can re-use your existing tie rod ends if they are still in good shape. The one that attaches to the bell crank goes on the passenger side knuckle. You can purchase tie rods from Herm or make them yourself from DOM tubing. I got the Saggy box with a dropped pitman arm from Ebay for $50.

this is how i did mine as well. I got my rods from a postal jeep and took them to my local machine shop and had them cut it down and re thread one side of it. works great. my box came from e bay as well for 50 bucks

ok, for some reason i was thinking that the "special tierod end" was off set the wrong direstion. just took one tie rod apart, and i dont have a tap that will fit, looks to be a 11/16" fine thread:rofl: I have 3/4"&5/8" but no 11/16" mehh I may just cut on tie rod up and use the threaded ends as bungs. I would rather have threaded the new tube and may still go that route because of saftey inspection purposes (once a year here in VA) and they frown on any welding to the frame or steering. Really just comes down to who ever does the inspection;) but any mod i do will look as close to a factory setup as possible, just in case i was to be in a accident and they try to say well this or that had a role in the accident  I have all the faith in the world as far as my welding goes (used to be the one that welded the lifting points on 10k lb transformers) we had chains to break, hoist to stall, but never a lifting tab to fail:D

Just made my own tie rods out of heavy duty 1" tubing. I drilled and tapped them and bought a new set of stock tie rod ends. Turned out really nice. Nice thing about threading both ends is you can adjust your toe in by just loosening the jam nuts and spinning the tie rod. And the tap size I used was 11/16" 18 threads per inch.

i used the original tie rods and mounted my power steering box then re indexed the pitman arm. so now when the tires are straight and the steering wheel is centered the pitman arm is angled towards the passengers side. its been working like that for over 6 years and handles perfect. when i first installed it i worried on how it would work with the pitman arm angled towards one side but to my surprise i cant even notice it. i recently swapped out my cj tie rods and ends for M38A1 tie rods, my jeep is M38A1 and i had the tie rods but had gotten a good deal on a whole tie rod and ends setup so i used them, then i found a good deal on M38A1 tie rod ends so i swapped them out. still works perfect.
