I replaced my 5-38 rear end with a 4-11 because I discovered my front end was a 4-11. I discovered this when I put it in 4 wheel drive. I have gained alot of top speed; however, it doesn't have the torque it used too. Would it help to play with the timing a bit ??? or is it just the nature of the 4-11 gears???

if the 134 don't have OD you prob wont see any difference by advancing timing these ole engs aren't ment for speed and by raising gear ratio to 411 will add a little strain on the eng you may want to consider maybe a size or 2 bigger tire if it will fit
I myself would have found a front 538
I have 538 in my 3b 4.3 sm465 dana 18 and love the gearing on trails

so I miss worded its fixed now

Hmm, 4.10 gears are higher than the 5.38 gears, not lower.

A larger tire will only worsen the situation.

I think you're likely at the best you're gonna get unless your tires are larger than stock, in that case going back to stock will help.

Also note, 4.10 gears were not an option from the factory with the F134, everything was a lower gear; 4.27 and 5.38, you've likely found the reason. :)

What Sparky said. 4.10's are just too high a gear for the f Head, IMO.

I also think 4.10's will be way to tall for a F head. You might get by with them paired with a set of terralow 3.15:1 gears in the D18 (what I am running with a far larger engine), but it would be marginal at best. Just plain not enough low end torque to make it work.

O.K. thanks guys....I am running 31 x 10 x 15 Pro- Comps.....Was sorta stuck cuz I spent all the $ to rebuild the front end then discovered the ratio difference alot later, It does pull great in 4wd low though.....
