I have a 64 CJ5. There are two small bolts between the top
of the grill assembly and the radiator that has held some-sort of
fabric at one time. Also it has some spiral nails in the bottom of the
grill assembly, pointed down, at an angle, across the bottom of the
rounded piece of metal. Was this to hold the shield in place at the
    bottom?

No, its between the top of the grill assembly and the radiator. There is a gap
about 2 inches between the top of the radiator tank and the part of the grill assembly that is closest to the radiator. The two small bolts are on the vertical surface near the top of the grill assembly .
Wish I could draw a picture.
    Thanks

Radiator Guard Seal upper and lower

It is a burlap type material sandwiched between a dark haired, fiber material that is 1/8 inch thick. The dimensions are 4 inches by 17 inches. There are two sixteenth inch holes; one is 3 ¼ inches from the end and 1 inch down from the leading edge. On the opposite side the hole is located approximately 1-¾ inches from the end and 1 inch down. Along the bottom edge are 5 holes (attached to radiator by buttons/nail-heads) a half inch from the bottom edge. The upper and lower seals are exactly the same. The upper seal is attached by two ¼ 20 X 7/16, hex-head bolts with a plain ¼ inch washer and a nut with integrated lock washer.

F4 with the regular radiator. The heavy duty rad is thicker & doesn't require them.
