Thanks Jake. I ordered the 1 7/8 cap. Measured the opening of the tank and it is 1 7/8. Hopefully it will work. I called and they told me it is also vented. I will keep yall informed.

I pole vaulted over mouse turds trying to cure this problem. ultimately I used a number sixty (#60) drill bit to vent my cap. A piece of tape or a spare cap will suffice during emissions testing if you have to do that.

The hole is large enough to vent pressure and small enough to keep fuel from escaping in all but the most miniscule of amounts.

I (being a pack rat, which my wife hates - but it does come in handy sometimes) still have the box my locking cap came in.

It's a MotoRad Gas Cap # MGC 25. That fits the underseat gas tank on my '60. Still the stock tank. Now doing a search to see if you can still get the little beasties.:):):D

Transcedar Industries LTD. Niagara Falls, N.Y. 14303 it says on one corner of the box.:coffee::hurrican:

The cap I replace had a small hole drilled through it and a cotter pin was threaded through a length of chain, into the cap and the tines were bent over on the inside (Tank side of cap). The other end of the chain (the same kind used in the old desks or if you have one on the GoldWing Faux tank side covers) about ten inches long and secured under one of the mounting screws for the filler flange.:hurrican::coffee:

An old adage for excessive effort/resources spent doing something simple. Imagine someone actually pole vaulting just to avoid a one or two millimeter tall pile o' poo. (Reductio ad absurdum)

Hey 1960willyscj5, the gas cap you mentioned is listed on Motorad's site as a non-locking cap. The list one for a 57 willys locking and vented. Wonder if that is my cj5?

Got this gas cap from Grump's garage. originally ordered from Bob Drakes but it was on back order there. It is locking and vented (and very heavy). Fits perfect. Don't know about spillage yet as I have not driven the jeep. Looks good against the viper red jeep (chrome and red).
