I found one article that said "always" replace the king pin bearing caps when new bearings and races are installed. None of the other articles or posts I read mentioned the caps when replacing the bearings and races. So, what do you think? Always replace them? If not always, then how do I tell if they need to be replaced?

    I never have.

I've only replaced races and bearings. News to me unless the cap is damaged beyond use.

:iagree: the bearing cap is a non wear item (unless the bearing is so far gone it has seized and has been rotating on the cap itself) very unlikley;)

Thanks for the replies. The caps look fine. No cracks, scoring or other visible damage. Can't say the same for the king pin bearings. Definitely time for new ones.
