Clutch shudder

Alright, here's my situation. When I let the clutch out to take off from a stop, the whole rig will shudder. It will do this the first few take-offs in the morning, then maybe once or twice throughout the day. However, when I'm backing up, it does it every single time and way worse than when moving forward.

'69 CJ5, 225 V6, 70,000ish original miles. I have no idea when the clutch was last replaced. It may very well be the original clutch. I converted to AA's chain linkage a couple months ago.

If I had to be picky about it, i'd say it's been gradually getting worse over time. The forward shudder would stop completely for a few days with the stock linkage after periodic adjustments (the linkage itself was wearing so fast I'd have to re-adjust it back to spec once every couple weeks).

The AA chain is adjusted to spec (between 3/4" and 1 1/4" free play, it's somewhere in the middle) and it drives beautifully, drops into gear sweet and smooth every time, even into reverse (no grinding at all which is a first for this rig). Something else that's new with the AA linkage is that with the clutch all the way in there is a slight vibration you can feel through the whole rig. It didn't use to do that.

Right after I got the Jeep, the clutch would squeak and make (a sort of) clunking noise at idle with the clutch completely out (not even touching the pedal). I'd put a little pressure on the pedal and it would go away until I took my foot off it, then one day that just stopped and I never heard it again.

Bad clutch disc? Bad springs? Bad throwout bearing? I dunno... this is the first manual rig I've owned. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
