The more I looked, the more I knew that I had to do the nasty on this wiring nightmare.
At least the 74 was one of the last of the "simple" wiring harnesses.

I'm doing everything from the front to the back, one harness assembly at a time. After pulling it all out, and studying on it, It occured to me that the best approach was to wire one circuit at a time starting with "A-1" and working down the circuit schedule in order.

I'm trying to use the correct wire colors and gauges.
I'm adding a small gang of fuse blocks to eliminate the randomly placed "in-line" fuses.
I'm trying to use the original style "packard 56" style new connectors ,Soldered where possible.
I'm running dedicated ground wires to anything that needs to be grounded.

I'm also going to convert from the Motorola ext. reg. alternator to a Delco 10si

Pics of the work in progress...

Now would be a good time to upgrade your headlights if you haven't done that already. I went with the Rampage H-4 conversion and I'm really satisfied with them.
After rewiring a couple years ago the old sealed beams really brightened up but the H-4 are just great. The center bolt under the grill was replaced with a brass bolt and that helped too.
Fresh wiring made a huge difference after dealing with the junk under the dash for so long. Good luck.

I find the Rampage style lights to be too modern looking for my taste on the 74. I am going to get pair of Cibie H4 E-codes. They have the look I like and perform as good or better than the stuff sold these days.

I tell you what. If I could go back to last year and slap myself for installing my Painintheass Wiring harness I would. The thing has given me more problems than it is worth. I'm honestly thinking of just taking the hit and getting rid of it here in the upcoming frame off maintenance session she's about to go through.

    UPDATE...

Getting ready to make a new Chassis Harness.
I'll be adding dedicated grounds and a trailer plug.
I want to also add wiring that I can plug into the front grille and use the jeep taillights for flat towing behing my pickup.
