Is there a simple swap to a 4 speed bolted to my 304 and t18? My three speed syncros are done and the throwout bearing is starting to growl so I thought maybe an upgrade is in order. Thanks in advance!

    I think you're asking for a simple swap from a 3 speed to a 4 speed...wanting to use a T18 4 speed?

I've done the T18 swap from a J truck into my CJ5 without too much trouble. I did have to purchase a new input shaft due to having the wrong length from the J truck...and I went ahead and put in new bearings etc while I was there. But it's pretty much bolt up in my case. I already had the right bellhousing and the Dana 20 was already attached to the T18.

The driveshafts have to be changed too however. The T18 is longer. There are quite a few threads on this swap due to its popularity.

    Hi there....

Just recently completed this upgrade. You have to get a 1" adapter plate as well as new drive shafts. After that, there is sometimes a problem getting the transfer case to line up correctly. The 304 has some serious torque, and when you twist the motor, it can knock the transfer case out of gear...just a warning.

This swap isn't that bad, but it is more difficult than the forums make it sound. Definately worth it in the end!!! Best upgrade I have done yet. :)

I should have been more clear...because the Dana 20 was still attached to the T18 out of the J truck, the 1" plate is already there.
