I have an 74 CJ 5 and other than a few problems, it runs and drives great. The main problem is that the battery will not stay charged though i just replaced the alternator. Is it possible that the voltage regulator is bad? Also, i just replaced my temp sending unit and hooked it up for the first time. When i turned the key it immediately read hot, even though the jeep hadn't been ran in like 8 hours.

I would change the Volt regulator. I had a issue with mine and changed the alt and it still didn't charge correctly. fixed the prob with the regulator.

I think my buddy had that issue with his cj7 and it turned out his groud was bad or somthing like that and was shorting the gauage out. Maybe double check all connections?

well maybe i dont have it wired correctly then because i have a keyed hot wire running to the gauge then the ground wire runs from the gauge to the temp sending unit.
