Leaky MTS tank

Does anyone have a solution for the gas cap on the MTS plastic tank? I bought their gas cap, but it still leaks like a sieve. I bet I lost a gallon of gas out of it today.

 

Take the old gasket out carefully and cut one out of an inner tube. Put the piece of tube on the cap and then put the original gasket back in. I did this on my steel tank that was leaking and have had no problems since.

Thought I'd follow up on this. Cutting a piece from a rubber inner tube helped, but it still wasn't leak free. It also swelled up after a while. I found a better soluiton totally by mistake. The sink in my camper was leaking due to a broken nut that held the drain. I went to the hardware store in Buena Vista looking for the nut and ended up buying a whole new drain. Since I didn't need the drain, I just used the nut to fix the sink. Among the leftover parts was a rubber gasket that fit perfectly! That solved that leaking problem, but it too is starting to swell. What kind of material stands up to gasoline?
