Im rewiring my 70 CJ5 and am sick of playing the alternator game. Im changing to the three wire but I need a little help with the solenoid. I need to know which posts are which on the solenoid so I can finish this up. The solenoid is as described looking at it from in front of the engine.

9 o'clock: large terminal, currently battery cable is attached
12 o'clock: small terminal, i donta have anything attached
3 o'clock: large terminal with brace/jumper? to top of starter. EZ wire tech says this is where my ignition start wire goes but there was never anything here when the jeep was running (before I started rewiring)

None of the posts are marked (i.e. "B", "I", or "S")

So I guess the question is where does my solenoid power wire go, my ignition start wire go, and my battery cable go?

Also, originally the jeep had a power wire running from the starter to the alternator but the tech guy says i no longer need it unless im running an 80 amp or more ALT. Is this true? Is it bad if I still run it? Sorry for the long post but I need all the help I can get...

The big stud with the strap going into the starter will not have any wires attached to it. The other big stud is for the positive battery cable to attach to and you can also connect a number 10ga wire on this stud and run it to the BAT terminal on the back of the alternator (providing you are not using an ammeter). The solenoid cap (if Delco) will have a "S" and "R" indication on the cap near each terminal (sometimes hard to see) but if you cannot see them just connect the wire from your ign switch (Start) terminal to one of the small terminals and try to crank it. If it won't crank the engine then put that wire on the other terminal (you won't hurt anything) and crank. If the starter cranks the engine then you are good. The other small terminal is used to put 12v to the + (pos) terminal on the coil in some applications. Yours may need this, depending on your wiring harness set-up.
