1963 cj5 electrical help

    i can't find out if i have a 6 volt or 12 volt system it is the stock system but if it is 6v is there any jeep i can use for donor parts? i have the 4 banger under the hood

    Easy way to check, the generator should be stamped, either 6 or 12 volt (sometimes stamped 7V and 14V). A 6 volt battery has 3 cells to fill water, a 12 volt will have 6, etc.

    not 100% sure but i think they stopped using 6 volts after 1955.

    Take a look at one of your dash bulbs. It should have the voltage stamped on it. The regulator will also have it stamped somewhere on the base or underneath and will also indicate pos or neg ground. Old generators have usually been rebuilt so many times they no longer will show a stamped voltage on them.
