How many styles of timing chain covers are there for the 258 over the years?

I want to convert from my drivers side motorcraft alternator to a passenger side delco unit. I found a bracket off a 79 DJ but my stock 74 timing chain cover doesn't have the raised mounting bosses.

I found a cover off a 90 4.2L that has one big boss that keeps the bracket from fitting.

I found a cover from a 78 258 that looks like it should work, mounting boss wise, but the timing marks are in a different position.

Will a later harmonic balancer bolt on to give me a compatible timing line for the 78 cover?

Is there anything else to watch out for while doing this conversion?

You need the 76 and later balancer and you will also need the later water pump and pulley.

    Got the 79 pulley.
Whats the deal with the water pump? Shaft length to align pulleys?
