I just turned 5K miles on the jeep and it hasn't had a problem yet, course I don't know if having an engine paint base coat helped

The Detroit diesel that I had in my trucks is a GM engine as well as the Buick that we have in the jeeps. The Detroit diesel, Alpine Green, is a very close match. Also hammerite has a very close color as well if you are not trying to go 100% stock, regular paint holds up as well as the so called engine enamel, hope this helps.

Yes! I hunted around for over a month, finally got the same answers from 3 companies!! Alpine Green!! made by Plasti-Kote! Have a can in front of now!! Got the info from Buick farm, Kaiser Willys and an retired parts manager who used to work for botha Buick and Jeep dealerships back in the 60's and 70's!! The code on the can is "225 Alpine Green"

.....Well I used my actual engine to match the color, not what someone told me. I had a valve cover with the original paint still on it underneath the original valve cover decal (as other have as well) and the Hampstead was almost a perfect match. The Alpine Green wasn't the same color. The original even had a metallic mix to it and the Alpine green is a non-metallic color. The Hampstead did.
I'm not going to :dead horse: as this has been talked about....ALLOT over the years on here, but I will say this-

I always get in the water myself and see how deep the water is before I dive off. There may have been a hidden rock someone didn't see. Speaking in absolutes can leave one liable. I haven't read anywhere or heard anyone say Jeep didn't change the paint over the years...they may have. However, I Have read that GM did have several shades of v6 green very close to one another over the years for that family of v6's and since that Was their engine and they used it before and after jeep had it, all I know for a fact is what the color of my Jeep painted 225 v6 was originally and it WAS a match to Hamstead Green, not Alpine Green. Further, I got the Hampstead green idea from others on here so there must have been other Jeep v6's besides mine painted that same shade of metallic green by Jeep.

agree. I used Alpine Green on my 71 and it worked out ok since I was just looking for green rather than blue. The 65 that had the crate motor had all original green that was definitely not alpine. The shade is somewhat different and as you said metallic.
