Another Bolt Question

This time about a Harmonic Balancer Bolt for a 231 Oddfire. Is this a special bolt or just standard hardware?

 

I replaced a broken one with a grade 8 bolt a few years back. Can't remember the thread count and size though :?

 

On second thought it may have been grade 8.8 (metric) Can't remember SAE or metric either. I know I had to get it from the industrial supply house.

 

I have got one apart now. I could measure it for ya next weekend. Looks like a fine pitch, and fairly large. I would think that a grade 8 would suffice.

The bolt is a 5/8-18 NF, mine is marked as a grade 5 bolt.

 

Y'know, this is where a jeep part manual is so valuable.

Jeep part numbers are almost useless at this time, but they do such a good job of detailing thread pitch, and length, and size of all those pesky little fasteners that always seem to be missing and odd.

 

A Grade 8 bolt is for tensile strength. for this application you should use a grade 5 for sheer strength.
