I just received my new gearbox and engine mounts, and I've got a couple of questions.

On the Dana 20 everything looks fine except for the stabiliser bushing. It's got a lot of play on it,maybe just less than an inch, and I can't figure out if it needs to be like that or not.According to a drawing I saw, it looks right to me.

If someone maybe have a pic of the engine mounts of a 232 or 258 it would help me a lot! I've got the correct mounts, but there is no "catching" plates, so I'll need to manufacture some.

    Greatly appreciated as always!
Maybe I can get the gearbox and transfer in this weekend!

Is it possible that the new mounts have internal breakdown preventers?

I noticed my stabilizer bushing has a lot of play also so i took it appart and added a few washers to the "stack" to tighten them up some.

I never thought of that, but it doesn't look like it.

Did you "squash" the rubber a bit on the stabiliser bushing?

Here is a pic of what I've got.

No i did not squash it, but took most of the slack out of the mount. It looks like there are breakdown preventers on the left side. Thats the style that are on my jeep.

    Thanks.
I had a good look at them and yes, it looks like there are breakdown preventers in them.Do I need anything else for the mounts?
If you look at the picture where the stud is on the engine mount, there are two pins sticking out. (can only see one)Those will prevent the mount from sitting flat and flush on the steel part that's bolting to the chassis.Should I make up a spacer, or just drill locating holes in the steel part it fits to.Also, should the breakdown preventer face down or up?

On the stabiliser bushing, where did you add the spacer washers to?The gearbox mount mounting plate is going in between the two rubbers, and there is a big hole in the mounting plate, so the free play is actually the distance between the two rubbers shoulders. Is that about right?

Sorry for all the Q's, but there were nothing to work from!

    Thanks so far,
    Okkie

Have you taken this apart yet? I expect there will be holes in the frame and/or engine brackets to admit the bumps on the insulators.

The torque limiter is supposed to be loose. I'd use the parts I had and not worry about it.

Understood on the torque limiter. That makes sense as a torque limiter.

The original mount had a separate plate that acted as the breakdown preventer, but that won't fit the new mount, because of the build in breakdown preventer.
There are definitely no locating holes in the engine brackets.
Maybe I should fit the engine with loose mounts to align the locators on the engine brackets correctly, and then mark and drill them. I could also make up a spacer with two holes for the locators.
The previous mount had nothing to prevent it from turning, so locators is actualy a good idea?
