if i need to notch my driver side engine mount to route the steering shaft and then reinforce the notch, will i have to remove the engine? (hope not) or perhaps remove the exhaust mani? the fuel pump makes me nervous about welding there....

this is the 69 5 i am rescuing for those new to my "project".

    thanks

I removed the drivers side fender and then notched the MM with the gas axe. I think that I bent a piece a thin sheetmetal around the fuel pump as a makeshift heat shield.

If you're worried to much about the fuel pump, take a bath towel that is junk and soak it in cold water and wrap it around the fuel pump and line.

thanks. lol. i've been taken em as i go. :D looks like i'm gonna have to learn how to weld better after all. the last time i welded was about 30 years ago. got my grinder all ready!

been trying to get what i need from the salvage yard before it turns really cold here. they charge me a lot less if i remove the parts myself. sometimes it's been free!

    no

they just mainly have late model stuff and the 80 and before don't have much value to them sometimes. so if i find a bracket or odd piece i can use they say just take it. n/c

i went to junior high and high school the owners' sister. about the time when my 69 cj5 was brand new! even asked her out to the homecoming dance the year before i met the woman who became my wife.

and the one of the owners went to school with my brother.

Even taking off the fuel pump if your that worried is easier than removing the engine.

i was mostly worried about being able to actually get decent access to the motor mount for the mod. kinda crowded in there. ;)
