i noticed yesterday, when adjusting my electric choke on my edelbrock 600 carb, that the choke has a small hole under the black plastic housing that draws vacuum, i also have one of these carbs on my truck and it has the same thing. now i cant imagine that edelbrock designed this carb to have a vacuum leak. the hole isnt tapped. id post a picture but cant find the attachment link. anyone know what this vacuum hole is for.

It's to cool the thermostat. Edelbrock calls it a "controlled vacuum leak". I called them about it. The guy told me the plastic thermostat cap would melt if it wasn't there. Bugs me, too, but it's supposed to be that way. There's a screen in there that's supposed to be a filter.

ok, makes sense. figured it was suppose to be there seeing as both carbs have it.
