just did a 231 odd fire swap for my worn out 225. having a problem with lifter noise. It sounds like only one lifter is knocking bad when there is a load on the engine. Is it possible that one hydraulic lifter isnt working right? Oh, I did change the cam too, this would make all the push rods too dhort but what about just one lifeter?

Did you bleed the lifters before installing them?

I didnt do the rebuild, a local mechanic did. He seemed kinda miffed at what the problem could be. I will ask him. It sounds like only one lifter, is that possoible?

sure it is not a exaust leak @ the manifold? it will sound just like a lifter, and will show up under a load. just food for thought

also if the timing is advanced too far it will make it sound like the lifters are chattering under load (spark knock, predetionation) and yes it is possible to have one bad lifter

Noisy lifter(s) usually make noise whether the engine has a load on it or not. Rod bearings OTOH can be quiet with no load, but show up when loaded. Rod bearings don't sound like lifters though.

x2 on what Patrick said, usually lifter noise is very obvious at low rpm. It is very common to have to swap out a lifter or two after one of these motors has been sitting around.
