Which would be better to go with? Should I shy away from the Saturn because of the aluminum shift fork and just go for a new Warn from Herm with the bronze fork? A guy at a local Jeep shop said the old Warns are noiser and are harder to shift than the Saturns. Anyone else hear of something like this? He's been known to be wrong before. Also, this same shop guy offered me a brand new Saturn with the shifter for $800. I saw that Herm wants $897 for a new Saturn plus $48 for a shifter. Should I not worry about the aluminum fork breaking and jump on this deal?

I just put in a OD this summer. It came from Herm. I believe it said "warn" on the case. Works like a dream. I can detect no "noise" from the overdrive. The whine from the TC would drown it out anyway. Shifting into OD from direct requires feeling for the second "click" of the shift. If it were me....

Go for the Herm unit. It was assembled by the master himself. For the 100 clams difference, I would rather know that things are in good condition. The $50 for the shifter isn't a big deal either. You -could- create something from old linkage, but the designed system is the way to go.

Currently I have 5 Warn OD's - I have run Saturn ones in the past with no issue. To put it Bluntly, your parts guy is spreading more crap than a cow.

Call Herm and see what he has that will fit you - you will be very happy with it and Herm - and have a solid piece of mind.

For what it's worth I have an old Warn that was rebuilt when I got it. No noise, as mentioned before the D18 would drown it out anyway. On mine it helps if you shift it slowly, with a slight hesitation between positions, trying to speed shift it can cause a short "BRZBRZ" as it goes into gear.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll go ahead and get a Warn from Herm. I'd rather give him the business anyway.
