I have a 1954 M38A1 that I am restoring to a 1959 appearance, and was wondering if anybody else came across these vehicles they would be a olive drab without military markings as this agency would probably grab whatever surplus the military didn't use any input would help thanks Mike

Not quite sure what your exact question is...

Military jeeps were usually "surplused" at about 25,000 miles, and government agencies, municipalities, fire departments, etc., were given priority on them - sometimes one after another. Later they eventually reached the public by auction.

Thus many surplus M38A1 Jeeps have had multiple 'official' paint jobs and markings. But 1959 seems to me to be rather early for a surplus sale. Did BPA get them new?

Bonneville Power Admin not only placed Hydro Dams, but they were the early outfit that layed out the transmission lines throughout the northwest and the jeep in question is a 1954 M38A1
