Hi All, I have read some post about putting in a 1970 CJ5 rear tank in a early CJ. Looking for some advice, are there any issues with the rear pumkin hitting it, does it fit up nice (any hitting issues). I am using a 3.5 wrangler spring lift, and plan on running 33" tires. Are, there any other tanks out there that are the same dimensions, but with driver side inlets? Any advice will be welcome. Thanks in advanced!!!

I just put a 70-76 tank in my M38. If I were to do it again (got good deal on tank), I would put in a 76 to early 80's tank. The filler is on the driver side and the filler hose is smaller and more available. As far as I know the 15gal tank is the same size. Think if you do a search you will see the same response.

I had a 70 - 76 tank in the rear of the '51 until the pumkin smashed it... Split right down the tank. Mine was due to the Holbrooks, RS9000s, and the OX Locker (cover is larger, more articulation).

I build a custom tank out of 1/8 steel (skid and tank in one) and have about 18 gal cap with it.

As per Warloch, I welded up my own (out of 14 gauge steel) with a 3/16 aluminum skid. I moved the two body mounts off the cross member to locations directly over the frame rails to maximize the tank size, which is 24.7 gal. There are urethane rub strips along both sides to make sure the shackles stay clear (about 1/4 clearence even though the jpg does not look like it).

I really did not like having 2 jerry cans pasted on the back before I made this tank (probably just as bad or worse than sitting on top of the tank) and have not needed them since. You can get quite a bit more capacity fabing your own tank.
