I am getting geared up to put a Dauntless
:v6: in my CJ3a and add power steering.
I think the steering upgrade will really help me on the trails but I still hate the fact that I need a whole acre to turn around do to the wide steering radius of the D25 and my 33" tires rubbing.
I know that going to a D30 will greatly improve this but I already have a locker and 11" brakes on my current diff.
Has anyone tried putting the 1 1/2" spacers on their front end? If so, does this help much or would I be wasting money? I'd hate to scrap my diff and spend all the cash to put a D30 in if I could get by with the $150 spacers.

Load wise, I don't think it would be any different than wheels with very small backspacing. I would not do it on a 1/2 ton, but think it will work on a flatty. However, I have NOT tried it. The D30 is still the better solution. That said, the spacers are not that pricey and probably worth a try.

I run 1 1/2" spacers, and the tires don't hit the springs...I've been running them for 7-8 years...

id go with the spacers. But keep an eye out for used ones im sure you can get some for cheaper. They do seem to retain their value so if you do eventually decide to sell them you should get most of your money back.

No, $150 is for a pair. Not sure if I would put them on the rear. Definately wouldn't buy the second pair untill I was sure the front ones worked out.

Check on Ebay. Prices are better there.

You should be able to find quality spacers for less than $100. I bought a pair of 1.25" widths for my spare tire carrier (only used one) about 2 years ago from the local 4x4 shop where I get most of my parts (Rennegade Off Road) and I think they were about $80.

PLEASE don't crank in the stops trying to get more radius once you put on the spacers. I don't remember the fsm setting off the top of my head, but the closed knuckle design is very unforgiving if you go too far.

"The results? A 20% improvement in turn radius. Before installing the spacers I could do a 41’ foot circle turning hard left. After installing I could turn a 33’ circle. I neglected to measure the right-turn results but seat of the pants feel is the same or better."

Thanks, I think that is just what I'm looking for. I'll give them a try

    Merry Christmas
