After I got rid of my 79 CJ5 I took a little break from the site, but I'll be visiting frequently again since I just picked up another CJ project - a 74 CJ5 with only 32,000 original miles!! It's been sitting (other than a mile or so each year to keep everything from freezing up) since 1979!!! Of coarse the floors are rusted out, but only in the deeper area of the footwell. Most of the other metal is in pretty good shape with minor rust patches here and there. It's a 232 I-6 and I'm not 100% sure on the other details yet. I knew I was going to buy it before I even saw it due to the fact that it comes with a complete full metal top and doors with all the glass in perfect shape! The seals on the doors are rotted, but who cares!!

On to my first question - could you get a full metal top in 74? I wasn't aware that the dealer ever offered this option. If not, what are the aftermarket brands and how could I identify them?

Obviously pics would help immensely and when I pick it up this weekend I will bog everyone's computer down with loads of them!

Yes, the Meyer steel cab was available as factory equipment, or dealer installed. Full or half top.

Vin may reveal if it was hard top equipped. My 1972 seems to indicate so.
Original sticker in top (still in place) indicates it is a Meyers top.
I got mine this year with only 37K miles, same engine.
