4 wheel drive sticker on tailgate

Just wanted to show off my 4 wheel drive sticker, put it on the other day...those who look close may notice the the "drive" is not exactly where it should be.... I had to move it slightly to the drive side because of the aftermarket tailgate, it's construction is different in that it has a lip of metal that runs down each side interfering with the placement of the e in drive. Also these stickers were placed on magnets so I can remove them as needed. I did this because I may repair the rust damage on my original tailgate someday and use it. Hated to put the sticker on only to replace the tailgate later. Also was thinking of adding an M38a1 style spare tire mount which would also cover the sticker....it is a pain to arrange the letters but worth it for now. Someday may go back and actually stencil it on.

 

Looks great why don't you use the side mount spare that's org the back of jeep looks cool why hide iy with a spare tire

I have a spare side mount awaiting sandblast and paint. The holes are in the body. It was on before the paint job. Thing is I was four wheeling and not paying attention and caught a rock and mangled the side a little. Totally not paying attention the trail was practically a dirt road HAHA. It was one of the reasons I ended up painting it, was to fix that body damage. The rear mount is more trail friendly. Believe me I would like to go with the original look. Another concern is I use my Jeepbox everyday and the rear mount would somewhat block that making it less convenient. So it is a compromise either way.
Mike, don't tell me that!! I have magnets/stickers on magnets all over my dash! I can see what you are saying though. I don't get off road as much as I would like, but I guess it would only take one time. Well, one of the reasons I did it was so I could remove them if I wanted. I'll keep it in mind the next time I hit a trail. That's one of the downfalls here in Hawaii, just not that many places to go. And its not like you can just up and drive somewhere else HAHA! In the future they are talking of starting an inter island ferry, and I could ride to the Big Island with my Jeep, plenty of four wheelin over there!! So maybe someday...

 

There is a web site that has the Adobe printout to scale that lets you make a stencil for this "4 Wheel Drive" sticker sot you can spray paint it on.

Russell, I have seen that, in fact I have one on my desk I printed out and cut out, but it is on regular paper. What material did you use for the stencil?

That's a good looking original tailgate there!

I am not a fan of big 4WD stickers on new trucks, I say if you have to advertise it like that, something must be wrong!!
The Jeep "4 WHEEL DRIVE" is the exception.

Two methods will work: 1) print it out on contact paper, cut out the stencil and stick the paper onto the tailgate. 2) use an old-timer body man's painting trick - normal bond printer paper for the stencil but evenly spead a thin layer of grease on the back of the paper. Carefuly stick the grease-side to the tail gate and spray. Anywhere the grease is the paint will not stick. Also prevents bleed-thru of the paint and allows readjustment of the stencil. Just be sure to keep the grease under the paper.

I used method 2 because I forgot the contact paper stencil when I drove to the shop where I was painting the jeep. It worked like a charm - used matte finish black paint, not flat.

I agree with your aversion to stickers on vehicles. The exception for me is for stock stickers or emblems, which I don't mind.... and this one is a classic, almost the original 4X4 sticker (there was one earlier version I think).

 

I have a stencil sitting around, I think it came from sears back in the 70's. Actually I had a shed full of sears parts still in the boxes.

 

I would post some pics of the jeeps and all the stuff I had but I need photoshop to resize them all! I still got some stuff that I would sell but a lot of it is gone.

 

I use the IRFAN, I like it. Did not know about the batch conversion though!!
