Cracked steering wheel?

Too poor/stingy/broke to spend $80 on a new one?

I picked up a used, cracked stock wheel for $20 shipped. Went to Autozone, and picked up some J-B Weld Waterweld (epoxy putty) and it did the job perfectly! Just knead and whatnot like in the directions, push it into the cracks, give it a half-hour to cure, then you can sand off the excess and paint it like it's bondo.

This stuff is really strong, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Searched and didn't find anything, so I thought I'd let y'all know.

 

I recall POR-15 (or somebody like that) sells a steering wheel repair kit. Maybe it's Eastwood that sells it. Basically epoxy putty that you color to match the wheel. Yes, the JB-Weld stuff should work good if it's the right color. Thanks for the tip.

 

yeah, probably, but it arrived sooner than I expected, and since I work all weekend I wanted to get everything installed before then. spent a little money on a shot in the dark and was really pleased with the results.

the stuff is white but I'm planning to paint the windshield frame, dash, and steering wheel when i touch up the exterior in the spring, and i don't care if it looks nasty for three or four months.

 

Eastwood sells a steering wheel crack repair product, haven't tried it yet but I plan to.
